Lead Generation Web Design and Website Build Cost
If you’re considering having a new website designed and built, cost is of course a major factor. There are a number of people and companies available, ranging from offshore freelancers through to trendy London web design agencies.
Types of Web Designers and Their Rates
As a rough guide, when working with a web designer, a lead generation website cost can vary between £600 to over £20,000. The price varies hugely depending on the rate the person/company charges and the complexity of the website. Please see below for typical hourly rates:
- Overseas / offshore – £15 to £35
- Independent UK-based freelance web designer – £30 to £60
- Small web design agency – £60 to £80
- Medium web design agency – £80 to £100
- Larger web design agency – £100 to £200
There are advantages and disadvantages in who to use to create the website. The overseas and freelance options typically have higher risks, whilst the web design agency is a more reliable option. The larger the agency gets, the greater their overheads become. So biggest isn’t always best.
Another option is the DIY approach. With this you will use a tool/platform to develop the website yourself. There is typically an ongoing monthly fee to use the platform. Our DIY website build blog post provides more details including pros and cons.
Example – ‘Essentials’ Lead Generation Website Cost
A small business ‘essentials’ lead generation website (with say 5 main pages and a blog) would typically take around 40 hours. Assuming you chose a web agency, the cost would therefore range from £2,400 to £8,000, depending on what size of company you chose.
Example – ‘Advanced’ Lead Generation Website Cost
An ‘advanced’ lead generation website, with many more pages and several integrations (e.g. CRM, AI Chatbot) would take around 110 hours. Again, on the assumption you chose a web agency, the cost would range from £6,660 to £22,000, depending on what size of company you chose.
Other Costs
In addition to the website design and build cost, there are also some other costs to factor in. These include one-off costs such as:
- Writing copy – potentially using a copywriter, or using AI to assist.
- Stock photos or commissioned photography
- Themes & plugins
- Your own time!
There are also on-going (usually annual) costs that are needed including:
- Domain name
- Hosting (often included as part of a website care plan)
- Website care plan
- Legal terms, privacy and cookie policies – such as Termageddon
- Content updates and functionality enhancements
The on-going annual costs that you’d pay a web design agency for a care plan (which includes hosting and often some time for content updates) range from £1,000 to £5,000 / year. These vary depending on the size of the website and the size of the agency and how much time. For your domain name, email (such as provided by Microsoft) and legal policies, you’d need to factor in around £200 / year.
Most websites also have Website optimisation / SEO to help them grow and get more visitors and leads. Depending on your business, you may also want to consider paid (pay per click or social) advertising, which can be quite expensive.
